Audience Essay

QUESTION: Discuss the impact of funding on media products.

Anyone can make a movie but not every movie will be great. The impact on media funding is huge. Either with promoting your movie or even just creating it. Companies need to have the resources to make and edit these films or the movie will not end up happening. So yes, funding does have a major impact while filming.
Black Panther. A huge blockbuster film distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film made about $361 million in its first weekend alone! Walt Disney Motion Pictures is a huge and well known studio so it’s not surprising the movie made that much in one weekend. But as of May 22nd, 2018, the movie grossed about 1.344 billion. According to the web, Black panther is the highest grossing superhero movie yet. This would not be possible without the many resources they had while filming the movie. The movie took $200 million dollars to make not even including marketing costs which were $37 million for National TV ads. They made posters, keychains, kids toys, T-shirts, and much more. The film would not be what it is without the money they received to make this film. A great movie is nothing without marketing. Another Walt Disney Studios known as, Guardians of the Galaxy is also a huge blockbuster distributed by Walt Disney Studios. This movie used cross production to get their movie seen. Their campaign parents include Hasbro, Lego, GEICO, Ford Motor Company, Dairy Queen, and many more. The company Dairy Queen printed the movie on the cups and even had their own flavor created for the film. All Dairy Queen customers see the movie every time the go to take a bit of ice-cream. This creates major buzz for the upcoming movie. That’s just for marketing, it cost $150 million just to market. The movie itself cost $200 million to make. It ended up grossing 772.8 million.
Beauty and the Beast, a modern twist on the classic Disney movie. This movie came out in 2017 and grossed about $1.264 billion dollars! The original only made $315 million. I believe it is because of the marketing and funding increases that the remake made so much more than the original. The remake film had many cross-production opportunities like a special edition on ‘The Bachelor’ to promote the movie. Their budget while making this movie was $254 million. Unlike the remake the original films budget was as little as $20 million! The difference is crazy! The funding defiantly played a role in how much these films ended up making and even the amount, of viewers that saw it the first week they both came out. Next movie is the Lego Movie, unlike the previous movies this is a computer- animated film so the company used many voice actors instead of actual on-screen actors. The budget for this movie was $99 million, slightly less than the previous movies I’ve mentioned which is surprising. According to the web, “A live action film without any CG willprobably cost less to make than an animation film.” So, I would assume the budget would be significantly higher. Marketing cost about around $20 million. This movie had a lot of cross production while marketing like the Florida Resort, Lego Land! The perfect place to advertise a Lego movie. Merchandise also included, Lego Building Sets. The movie ended up grossing $192.3 million, very good for the budget they we’re given.
In conclusion, the impact of funding on media projects is significant and cannot be “short-cutted” in the slightest. Films with bigger funding usually end up grossing more in theaters and films with less of a budget make significantly less. The sad truth is, it’s just the way the movie business works! If you don’t get your movie seen and advertised it will fail and theres nothing you can do about it.

CCR for final project Karma

Hi blog!!! Today I'm going to be talking about the process that went into doing the CCR for this final project: Karma. First I wrote down all the questions and answers including a script for my mom and I. We placed the computer behind where the camera was and we used that because we couldn't remember the script. Then we started filming. Filming defiently took more than a couple tries becasuse we had many distractions. Once we blocked out all the distractions and got all the nerves out it was smooth sailing from there. We filmed and then I airdropped it to my computer. After I edited it on iMovie and then uploaded it to YouTube. After that I uploaded it to google slides then to blogger.

Final Project: KARMA

Hi blog!! In this blog I'm going to be talking about the process of making our movie Karma! This was  for sure the hardest project for me. I had filmed and acted in the last projects but it was nothing compared to this one. So many elements went into this movie. When we were first told about the movie we all wanted to do a horror or comedy genre. We decided in the end to mix both genres!! We wanted to do something different, people usually don't mix the two. We decided the plot of the movie then it was time to get to work. The first thing we had to do was planning and the storyboard. The storyboard was reallt diffiult for me to complete. It was 10 pages! In the end it was worth it though because it really helped though-out filming the movie. Next was filming but before we did that we needed to decide who to cast for our movie. We had two parts we needed filled. We ended up chosing my mother to play the mom and paige, our friend also in media studies, to play the main characters friend. After everything was sorted out it was on to filming. We first filmed at my house. We got the shots we needed then drove to our next location, the mall. The mall wasn't crowded that day so we got lucky! We filmed the shots we needed then drove back home. These were the final scenes that we needed for our movie. We filmed several retakes and then everyone went back home. Editing was the hardest part of this project because this movie needed so much of it! We needed the titles, the audio clips, the correct footage, and much more. We edited on iMovie and the end product was exactly how we envisioned. We were so happy with the results! We turned it in and completed the CCR and we were done. What I learned throughout this project was be patient. A lot of our shots took many redos and were very time consuming. But the end result will always be better if u put tons of effort into it!

Surf Crazy Music Video and What I Learned.

Hi blog its Lily!! Today I'm going to be talking about what I learned thought out filming this second project, the music video! When we first heard we were going to be doing a music video we were ecstatic. Personally I love music and dancing so this was an awesome project for me. The first thing we needed to decide was what song and genre we wanted to do. We either wanted to do pop or hip-hop. Those were our favorite genres of music so we figured we might aswell enjoy the music while filming. We first chose Say My Name by Destinys Child because the group has 3 members and we 3 members. But we soon realized that that song wouldn't be the best choice because the location the music video took place in would be hard to replicate. In the end we decided on Surf Crazy from the movie Teen Beach Movie. This song is very energitic and fun so we loved it. We started planning and doing the storyboard. We decided for location to film at the beach because it made sense considering the entire movie was filmed at the beach. When it was time to film we headed to the beach. It ended up pouring rain so we barely got any shots but we tried our hardest to make the best out of the situation. Another problem was Anyiah our other group member had sprained her ankle so she wasn't allowed in the water. She ended up just filming us.We went another day and got all the footage we needed. While filming we created a quick dance to put more personality into the video. Overall the filming process took a while and many, many shots but in the end we got everything we needed. The editing process was probably the easiest for the music video out of all the other projects. We just put the title on the beginning, put the clips of footage together and finally, put in the music. What I learned from this project was make the best out a situation. We didn't think going to that beach that day it was gonna rain but we made the best out of it and ultimately had a bunch of fun!

Gatorade Commercial and what I learned.

Hi blog. Today I'm going to be talking about my journey since the beginning of the year started. In the beginning of the year I was already late to the class because my gudinace counselor said I could should take more AICE classes. I wasn't to sure about this class at first. I got into class and they were already working on grammar for film, I caught up pretty quickly. The first project came around and we picked our groups. Luckily I ended up with the best group members possible, this makes my whole journey much more fun and easier. We decided to do a Gatorade Commercial for our first project and to be honest I wasn't even sure where to start. We got to work planning and doing everything we needed to do beforehand. After we were done planning it was time to film. Filming was the most difficult part for me. I didn't know how to work the camera and my acting skills weren't the best. I did drama for 3 years in middle school but It didn't really help me in the long run. Our first day of filming when we got to our location we already ran into a problem, there was tons of people on the track and field, but we ended up finding our own place to film. Another problem arose when we tried to set up our tripod, a piece was gone! We went back to the classroom to get another piece and we thought our problems were finally over. We thought wrong. We tried to turn on the camera and it was dead! So yet again we went up to the classroom and got another camera. Filming was smooth sailing from that point on. Editing was pretty easy but it wasn't my strongest suit either. My teammates and I worked together thoughout the editing process. The movie was finally done. We submitted it and did the final CCR. It was on to the next project. Overall I learned how to work the camera, basic skills of editing, and how to act.

How Innovative Thinking And Teamwork Helps Solve Problems

Hi blog this is Lily coming from 4 days of quarantine. It feels like its been so much longer than that... I miss my group and school. Today would offically be the start of spring break. But as I told you in the previous blog my parents aren't allowing me to leave the house under any circumstances. Many other families are doing this aswell. My group and I were supposed to film for CCR and overall complete this project. There are so many crazy things happening and they are what's preventing us from filming. At first people, including my group and I, weren't too concerned. This is greatly affecting us. We are trying our best to complete and make this project the best we can under the circumstances. Its getting harder and harder to complete this final task. Overall we can't meet up in person but thanks to technology we can communicate other ways. We went to Facetime and started thinking of ways we can all equally complete the CCR. Everyone in our group wants to do equal parts of work, it's just the fair thing to do. No one should do more work than the other. Another thing we had to consider was possibly doing it apart. We didn't want that either. This CCR is different from anything we have done in the past. We've done blogs and powerpoints but this time we are doing a filming style CCR. We've decided to do it like a talk show. For example like Jimmy Fallon, Ellen DeGeneres, or Jimmy Kimmel. We would make it like any of these amazing hosts were asking us questions about our upcoming movie. There are a few downsides to this though. All of our houses don't have the same background. We are going to try our best to use neutral colors in our CCR. Beforehand we are going to back on Facetime and answer the questions all together making sure it is at least 4 mintues long. Then we will chose who wants to do what question. But there are four questions and only three of us. What we are doing to resolve that is whoever spends the least amount talking about there chosen question will do the fourth and final question. Finally after we filmed ourselves answering we will get back on Facetime and edit the video all together.

Why We Couldn't Meet Up.....

Hey Blog. Todays blog we're going to be talking about the apedemic and how its bringing our movie process to a stop. The apedemic going around is known as The Corona Virus. This virus is effecting many things in todays world. Doctors don't recommend being next to someone with the virusand possibly avoiding going into crowded places. The virus is causinng many stores and public places to shurtdown completly. This virus is bad for your health and businesses. But its also bad for the film world. Many television shows and movies aren't allowed to film. This isn't a good thing. Not only will these productions have major setbacks but these people are currently out of jobs. For example directors, producers, film crew, etc. This virus is making it very difficult to film, for my group and high scale companys around the world. My group and I were supposed to meet several times this weekend but our meetups had to postponed. My parents will not allow me to go out of the house. They are very protective of me and don't want to risk any chance of me getting the virus. The virus doesn't effect younger peoples immune system as much as people with weak immune systems, infants, and the elderly. So even if me or my group were to get it it wouldn't be fatal, just a bad cold. I'm trying to continue to work on the movie even though we aren't in school. I have many things to do like CCR and double checking everything in the movie. This "break" shouldn't be an excuse of why your movie isn't done.

The Re-editing Process

Hi blog! As you guys know it is now the time for re-shooting and re-editing. We are going to wrap the film up. In the last blog I took the time to go review all the films and split it up piece by piece. It was for sure the greatest idea our group has came up with together. While editing using smaller pieces was smoother. For our first few productions we basically merged them, took all the videos and put them together. This made the films very very choppy. This is probably one of our biggest mistakes while editing and it resulted in our films ending with a lot of mistakes. We should've thought about this before hand. But we improved it and learned from our mistakes, which is very important. When you really believe your film is amazing its hard to accept that you made mistakes. Mistakes are how you grow and learn so all was well in the end. The first thing we did was go shot by shot. We went through them all very thoroughly while reviewing. We didn't end up using any of our new shots but they were good to have just in case. We started off with an opening scene and establishing scene of the house. We ended up putting the title on establishing scene shot. We wanted to cut out the sound so you couldn't hear the loud background noise. We also cut of the unnecessary film at the beginning of the shot. We watched the scenes over and over making sure our editing was perfect and the right speed. We then ended up making the scene faster after reviewing it. Then we finally cut off the extra footage at the end of the scene. It was finally to our liking and we went to edit the next clip. For the most part we followed these steps for all the scenes. For certain scenes we added background noise and/or music. It ended up being most of the time we had to speed the scenes up to make our film fit in the 2 minute limit.

Re-filming blog

Hi, blog its Lily! the day has been so slow. But from Friday and to this week we got a lot of work done. We went down to the bare bone in our film. We got good feedback but it wasn't all we thought we could get. As you know a lot of people carry their own opinion Which makes it even harder to get solid feedback on our film. We would have liked to have over 30 people watch our film and get feedback from them but that would be hard to find people willing to sit down watch and review. So we decided that the next best thing was to review it ourselves. But we all had to get in the mindset that it wasn't our film and we couldn't be biased. So we had our friend ana sit by us and keep us from being biased just because it was our own film. In my opinion, I thought our film was really great and I loved filming and help edit it. In my mind, we ddint have to re-film anything and I guess this will be our blog about talking about how we don't need to re-film. We found that our shots and angles were clean and perfectly cut. They were all well filmed and had good lighting. The sound was even really good in the film and I was so proud that we could get such perfect conditions while filming. As I told you we all sat down and reviewed our own blog and took down notes after every angle and movement of shot. We sat around a computer and watched the film for basically an entire period. Then we put all of our ideas together and realized what we needed to fix. That leaves our observations of what our editing could have done to be better. We really are gonna be focused on the editing part in the next blogs so I hope you guys are ready to see these clean-cut transitions.

Peer Reviewing Day

Hi Blog it's Lily. Tuesday was the day we were suppose to peer review someones movie and have a group review ours. We got group number six which was a group of four people. When I first got into class I saw Stephanie still working on editing the movie, I was a little concerned. The movie was all edited but the titles we're not put in. We needed at least ten titles and so far we had zero. The process of editing them in was fairly quick so it didn't really effect anything in the end. Once we got it done we gave the flash drive to the person reviewing our movie. Finally it was time to start actually peer reviewing the other groups movie. Obviously the first thing we had to do was watch the movie. We watched it several times. The first time was just watching it not writing anything down. The second time was writing notes and filling out the peer review sheet. The first thing personally that I did was review and see what shots they had and what they didn't have and also write down the times they appeared. Also a very important factor of the movie is the plot. The plot of the movie was confusing at first to my group members but I understood it eventually. The movie was basically a character in the movie murdered someone and the movie is basically showing her life leading up to her murder. Their movie is my opinion pretty good but there was a few things that could be improved. My least favorite part/thing was the plot was very confusing and could have been a little more clear. My favorite part of the movie was their acting.

Our Plan For Filming This Weekend at The Mall

Hi blog! Today we are going to be discussing how we are preparing to film this weekend. We need quite a lot of supplies and preparation for filming. For Saturday we are doing our house scenes. I would say half of the movie is filmed in the house. Out of all three of us we decided to film at my house. We decided to film at my house because it is the closest to the mall which is our location we need to film at Sunday. Since none of us are old enough to drive on our own we have to make driving a priority. Uber and Lyft are available but this time my mom is able to be our transportation. The next thing that we have to worry about are the props. We don't need tons of props luckily, just fake blood and possibly a witch hat. I might have a witch hat from a past Halloween costume. Fake blood should be easy to find because it can be found at most party stores. The plan for Saturday is Stephanie and Anyiah will come over and we will film the house scenes. We also need other friends to play characters. Stephanie and another friend, possibly Paige B, will sleep over so she will already be here for Sunday filming. So the plan for Sunday is that Stephanie, Paige and I will go to Aventura mall and basically just film all the scenes we need to. We need a shot inside the mall, inside a store, and outside in the parking lot. These are mandatory for our movie. We will stay there for a while and once we're done filming there we'll head back to my house. Once we are at my house we can watch over all the footage and make sure we don't need to refilm anything. The editing process will be shown and described in another blog. Bye for now !!

How Our Shots Didn't Work Out....

Hi everybody! However another end of the week where we couldn't get sufficient time together. It is super hard to get together when everybody has all these other activities are going on.Stephanie has been so busy lately with doing her other projects and getting her grades as higher. It has been a struggle to try to juggle it all including everyone's activity outside this class. All of us want to get a good grade on this project though. We all want the best for each other. We also have a lot of stuff going on in there lives as well. Getting together gets pretty hard when we all live 30 minutes away from each other. But we did, however, get about two hours to film all the mall parts. We went to the mall and we asked some stores for permission to film. We got turned down a couple of times but then we finally went to an H&M and they let us film in the store as long as we didn't get any other customers or make a mess. We couldn't get any of the customers on camera or disturb them. It was difficult because there were a lot of people in the store. We waited and waited for a long time for people to go and changed locations many times as well.We got some shots but most of them were very rushed and not very good sound. There was loud music in the store and babies crying in the back, a lot of just background noise. The music would have been good if it was lower but it was much too loud to hear the girl talking. We didn't get any shots to put in the movie so we are gonna try a different mall next weekend and get the house shots at my house.

Filming Blog.... why we couldn't film

Hey, world its Lily. This is the first weekend we have gotten to have time to film by our teachers and to be honest it wouldn't have been a great one. The weekend started off nice and with great conditions to film. But as time pasted through Friday things started to change. The weather started to get worse and worse. It was dark  because the sun had been hiding in the rainy clouds. If we got the opportunity to film Friday it would have been perfect. Since the school we go to is a magnet school we have the chance to come from all over Broward county to attend the school. We all live so far away from each other so it makes meeting up so difficult. Stephanie live in plantations, I lives in Hollywood, and I'm pretty sure Aniyah lives in pompano. We live like 30 minutes away. However, Stephanie is kinda in the middle of both Aniyah and Lily. We always make time for each other and come together and film in the end. Its difficult but we manage. That's why we make such great partners we do anything for each other and help each other out when we need it. We will make time one of these three weekends to film. Personally I'm a little mad that we couldn't get together this weekend. It is a long weekend in fact it is a four day weekend so you think we could've found time to film. We tried to get together but our schedules just weren't going together this weekend. We probably couldn't have filmed anything outside anyways because of the rain. We possibly could have been able to film the parts that are inside.
Here's a picture of the sunset.

storyboard blog

Hey world, it's lily! We have finally reach the last and final step of the planning phase: the storyboard. In this part of the planning phase I took the lead. Usually, Aniyah takes care of this part, but we decided to try something new. Aniyah helped me get started on the storyboard and she let me know how this part of the process goes. After that, I went on by herself. I learned well and I have shown great progress with the storyboard. The storyboard puts everything together. It puts together the actions, camera angles and movements, and shots. It maps out every second of the film. The storyboard truly depicts a good image of what our film is going to look like. This google slide will present to you the storyboard.

planning the titles

out of all the parts of this movie, title slides are really important. They are gonna show what we understand and how far we have come in our movie-making process. In today's slides, I am going to take you through just what we have planned the titles to be popping up on the screen. There is gonna be some detail about the location and the font. Also, there will be some telling about the amount of time it is going to be up on the screen. We have to fit a lot of important titles into one short 9intro to a movie but do it well. It has to be there long enough to read but no longer than to take up the whole time. It has to be perfect and if it isn't it could make the whole movie bad. In here we also spoke about the spacing and the contrast.

Planning Blog loaction and schedule

Hi blog it's Lily! For this blog we are going to be talking about some of the components to filming this movie. Instead of just using blogger as usual we are using google slides. The first slide is just an introductory slide saying what I am going to be doingl. The second slide is the shedule. We need a shedule to keep everything in order and make sure we do everything in a timely manner. The third slide are the participants. This is basically just showing who is going to be in the movie. The fourth slide is to insure that we are safe and taking the proper prosedures. Lastly, the fifth and sixth slides are about where the scenes in the movie will be taking place. Thats all for now! See ya.

planning for sound script

It is officially that time of year to start getting out script and background work together. We have been working so hard o this project to make it the best one ever. We have all come so far in the last year learning new skills. We have learned to edit, filming and just working as a group better. We are so excited to be able to share our script with you guys. This is gonna be your little sneak peek into our movie. Though we have been working super hard we still haven't got all the details down pat. But I promise the second we do we will let you guys know. In this blog, I will be going through all the sound effects that will be going into the blog. I will also we giving you guys the script that is gonna be in the movie. After this blog and the one before this, you will have a good understanding of what exactly our movie is gonna consist of.

planning blog shooting script

We have officially began the first planning step in the making of our movie. Our group and I have done a lot of discussing on how we want the movie to go. It took a lot of time and thinking because they were many different aspects to consider. We have to figure out what angles, movements, sounds, and editing techniques to use. We also had to figure out the meaning behind each angle, movement, sound, and editing technique and how it would not only grasp the audience attention, but also how would it keep them engaged. We eventually came up with great ideas of how we want it to go and it all connects very well. We have created a shooting script that maps out what will go on in each and every scene. Although, only the angles, movements, and editing techniques are planned out, in upcoming blogs, there will more insight into other details about the movie. Thank you for reading and blog you later!

Title Research: Venom

Hi blog. Today we are going to be researching and reviewing the title scene of Venom on artofthetitle.com. The genres of this movie are horror and thriller, the same as our movie. The other genres of this movie are superhero and science fiction. There are 7 questions that are going to be answered and explained in this blog
Q1: The first question is How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
A: There are 24 titles that are displayed during the opening sequence of the film. These titles include the names of the actors, directors, screenplay, producers, executive producers, etc.
Q2: The second question is what images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
A:The images that were prioritized in this film were ink blots. The ink blots either turned into something or appeared as something from the beginning. Some images were scratching claws, beetles, the actual main character(venom),fossils, skulls, bridges, and random creatures.
Q3: The third question is what connotations do the images carry?
A: The connotations that these pictures carry are showing you things that are gonna play a big part in the movie. For example the main character is obviously going to venom so they are going to show a sneak peak of that character. Another example is the bridge. This could possibly be hinting to where a significant scene is going to occur.
Q4: How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
A: The genre is reinforced through symbolic and technical codes because like Ive said in the past questions the images/objects represent more then they show.
Q5: How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
A: The film establishes an enigma because like I said in question 3 the images represent something, their there for a reason. Without the images the opening film would just be boring and bland. But some of the reasons for the images are unknown. That's what adds mystery to the film.
Q6: What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
A: The strategies that are being used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience are the film needed to show how their movie is going to be different from others. This movie is different then others because the main character of the movie is a villain. Another strategy used was that they showed how the movie was based on a original Marvel Comic. This will bring in a lot more viewers because it will pull in comic lovers and movie lovers. Another strategy used is they used a villain from another movie. Spider-man 3 is when Venom is first introduced.
Q7: How has technology been used effectively?
A: While answering this question I considered all of the following, camera angles, transitions, and editing. For editing they have to merge together all the images and videos. They also have to edit in all the titles as well as the music.

Title Research: Splice

Hey world, it's Lily! In this blog we are going to get more insight into the world of title sequences, from another movie. I am going to continue using these two sites to get my research: www.artofthetitle.com and www.watchthetitles.com. The movie I chose to do research on in this blog is Splice. This movie relates to my movie because they fit under the same genre which is thriller. This film is about a young scientific couple who try to complete groundbreaking genetic engineering experiments. They attempt to introduce human DNA into their work of splicing animal genes.

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
There are some images that are related to what the inside of the human body look s like. The words look like veins.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?
Images of veins and blood cells because that is what the movie consists of.

3.What connotations do the images carry?
It gives you a suspensful and eerie and feeling.

4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The opening sequence gives you some insight int what the movie is about. The images in the opening sequence give you a thrilling feeling to figure out what happens next.

5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
The images of the veins and blood cells make you want to know more about the movie.

6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
They made it seem like the audience was taking a tour into the world inside the human body. This is to really grasp the audience attention.

7.  How has technology been used effectively?
They used low lighting for an eerie feeling. They used incidental music to build

Title Research: Two Eyes Staring

Hey world, it's Lily! I have discovered a new movie that fits in the same genre as the movie I am going to create soon. This movie is really going to help my group and I grasp the audience's attention, not only by film, but also by the creativity of the titles. I got my research from a website called www.watchthetitles.com and www.artofthetitles.com. These websites helped me realize the importance of the title sequences in a film. A few thins I learned from these sites are that you have to make the titles visible. If not, than the readers will begin viewing the movie with confusion. Another thing I learned is that the structure and the visuals of the title sequences must relate to the film, to give the audience a little insight into what mood the movie will give them. Especially, if the film is horror, the beginning must give the audience an eerie feeling. This is also imperative because we want to grasp the audience's attention as soon as the movie starts.

The movie I did research on is called "Two Eyes Staring". The movie is about  girl who moves into parent's mansion with her family, but as time passes a woman discovers a dark and scary secret. Here are some need-to-know questions about the title sequences of this movie:

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
The font of the titles are dark shady, so this helps me infer that the movie that there is some mystery in this film.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequences?
There are images of a girl playing around and doing normal everyday things, but it also loos like there are some unexpected things that are going on behind close doors that she may not know about.

3. What connotations do the images carry?
These are visuals of some scandalous actions going on behind the titles, so that helps me infer that this movie includes with some skeletons in their closet that  will most likely come out near the end of the movie.

4. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
The visuals and the editing techniques are what reinforces genre. The way the movie presents itself from the very beginning to the very end screams horror. Even in the first two minutes the movies automatically gives you clues to let you know the movie is going to be horrific and scary.

5. How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
It has scary images in the background that already have you at the edge of your seat with a strong desire to know what is going to happen next. This is one of the main purposes of horror films.

6. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
The low lighting in the beginning of the movie sets an uncanny mood for the audience to get a hint of what they may feel during the movie. They used slow tempo music in the beginning of the film to add to the mystery of the movie.

7.  How has technology been used effectively?
In the images that they were portraying, they made it seem like the images were a part of pages that were being burned or wilting away. Tracking shots were used in different aspects of the sequences. Editing techniques such as fade in and fade out were used.

That is all the information I have for today's blog! Thanks for reading and blog you later!

Watch The Titles Research

This is a website called www.watchthetitles.com. This website came in handy because the other website didn't have all the movies I wanted to see. I watched the titles of the hostage, manhunt, and twister. They are not all exactly the horror category but they do fall under a thriller. Throughout these, I learned many titles that come up during the first two minutes of a film. At the beginning of films, they put who is presenting the film aka the company. Then they have the title come up in some cool way that goes along with the film genre. After that, they show the most important actresses of actors starring in the film. Basically from there, it goes down from everybody who did a job to make the film possible. IN the ones I've seen the casting usually comes right after all the people who star in the movie. After that, the person who produced the music comes into place. At this point, a variation of titles can come out. This can be the editor, art director, visual effects, costume designer, production designer, and finally at the end will always be directed by. This is why this website was crucial to my research about tiles.

Art of The Titles Research

As you see above there is a screenshot with a website on it, which is www.artofthetitles.com. I researched this website to get a better idea of titles. For our 2 minute film, we need to have all the right titles for it. But they need to fit into the type of movie we are doing. For example, in a crime movie, a title could be shooting out of the gun. Or if the movie was about the water the title could be coming out of an air bubble. The purpose of doing the research was to watch other movie beginnings to get a good idea of what the proper titles would be and good ways to present them. It is a website that has all types of movies and shows intros that have different titles. I watched over 20 starting intros. Out of all these intros, I started going through only horror and thriller movies.NOt only did this help with the titles it helped with getting ideas for our film. Now I have all these great ideas for the film and good ways to carry out the titles. Now It was a really good resource to have because it gave me many ideas for the film. But I will still do more research on the proper titles. This is so the film will be perfect.

Title Research: The Reaping

Hi blog! Today we are going to be researching and reviewing the title scene of The Reaping on watchthetitles.com. The genres of this movie are horror and thriller, the same as our movie. There are 7 questions that are going to be answered and explained in this blog.
The Questions
Q1: The first question is How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?
A:There are 27 titles that are displayed during the opening sequence of the film. These titles include the names of the actors, directors, screenplay, producers, executive producers, etc.
Q2: The second question is What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
A:The images that were prioritized in this film were as simple as leaves, stone walls, microscopic images, eyes(specifically eyelashes),  bursts of ink, and I cannot make out what some of the images are because they are so zoomed in.
Q3: The third question is What connotations do the images carry?
A: The connotations that these pictures carry are suspense. How much they zoom in the pictures show how they don't want you want you to know what those items or things are. The simple items like the leaves, bricks, or stone walls may represent something bigger then itself. These pictures urge the viewer to continue watching the movie.
Q4: How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?
A:  The genre is reinforced through symbolic codes is the images. They represent something bigger than itself.
Q5: How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?
A: The film establishes an enigma because it builds up suspense by not knowing what the images that are very zoomed in are. For the images you can see, you don't know how they would be significant in the movie. The music also plays a big part in building up the enigma(the mystery.) For example if there was happy, upbeat music you would think that the movie is positive and possibly a comedy. In this specific movie opening there was mysterious and eerie music. This music was setting the tone for the whole movie.
Q6: What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?
A: The strategies that are being used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience are the film needed to show how their movie is going to be different from others. Another strategy used was they showed what company was producing this movie. In this case it was Warner Bros. Warner Bros company is very well known and liked. Some big movies they produced were, The Exorcist, The Dark Knight, Aquaman, and many more popular films.
Q7: How has technology been used effectively?
A: While answering this question I considered all of the following, camera angles, transitions, and editing. For editing they have to merge together all the images and videos. They also have to edit in all the titles as well as the music.

The Quiet Place

The movie that I decided to watch and dissect was the The Quiet Place.
This genre of this movie is horror/thriller. This movie is about a family who must live their lives in silence after a mysterious creature that hunt by sound threaten their survival.
C.L.A.M.P.S

Costume- The costumes that the actors wear in this movie is raggidy and dirty looking clothing. Which makes sense because their living off of what they have and what the mother can sew. In most of the movie they are wearing hats and jackets aswell. Also because they cannot make sound they don't wear shoes.

Lighting- The lighting in this movie is mostly natural lighting. In most areas in the city the power is out therefore no artifical lighting. In the families house their are many candles providing light.

Acting- The acting in this moving is incredible. There is very little sound in this movie so the actors have to make dramtic facial expressions in order to get the emotions correctly.

Makeup- The makeup in this is little to none. The only "makeup" in this movie would be the effect of looking dirty. This would be called special effects not makeup.

Props- The props that were included in this movie were buckets, garden hoes, gardening tools, steros,  kids toys, medicine, endless cans of foods, and many more.

Setting: The setting in this movie is somewhere in the country but not to far away from the city. The characters are seen many times traveling to the city for supplies. The main setting in this movie is the familys farm/house. This is where the family is safe and protected.
C.A.M.S

Camera Angles and Shots- high angle, over the shoulder, establishing shot, long shot, two person shot, and mid shot.

Movements- tracking shot, pan, pov, and eye level.

Sound-
sound bridge, diegetic sound, toedent sound, score, dialog, non-diegetic sound.

Elements I like and elements I didn't like- I liked the acting in this movie. It takes very skilled actors in order to show such emotion without speaking. I enjoyed watching it because the ending of the movie was unknown throughtout the whole film. There weren't any elements I didn't like about the film except maybe it was a little too quiet at times.

Most Wanted Thriller Movie

The movie that I decided to watch and dissect was the inside man: most wanted.
It is an action movie having to do with a criminal mastermind family that went to steal Nazi gold back from a U.S bank
C.L.A.M.P.S

Costume- Most of the people were the police or FBI So they were wearing uniforms and kevlar. The people who weren't the police were forced by the criminals to wear burgundy jumpsuits so the police couldn't tell who was who.

Lighting- They start off with a studio effect sunlighting. Then as it gets darker they have the people use flashlights and have street lights to brighten the screen while its dark.

Acting- The bad guys had to act as if they were German and had thick accents. The other people acted terrified of dying and did very good at it. There was one character who had to act like she was on the outside as a victim but she was actually part of the robbery. The cops were realistic but could have been better at acting like they were scared.

Makeup- The girl that was acting as if she was a victim had to put makeup on her face and body to make it seem like she was abused. So they used lipstick and eyeshadows to blend into her skin to make it look like bruises. The people who were hit or shot had blood on their wounds and on their clothes.

Props- They had cars, helicopters, trucks, guns, fake gold, drills, phones, and fake money.

Scenery-  Late afternoon to midnight. Everything moving fast and peoples lives at risk.

Camera Angles- high angle, over the shoulder,

Movements- tracking shot, pan,
Pov,  establishing shot, eye level ,

Sound-

Elements I like and elements I didn't like- I liked the stoyr line of the movies. It was very action-packed and it wasn't a movie I could just tell what the ending was gonna be. I enjoyed watching it because it kept me on the edge of my seat. There weren't any elements I didn't like about the film.

Our final Genre Decision

Hey blog, it's Lily. In this blog I am going to reveal the final result of our movie. We have officially decided that the genre of our movie is going to be a horror film. The storyline of our movie is that there is girl who is not very nice and has a poor father and lives with her wealthy mother just for money. She continues to do bad deeds until suddenly she gets cursed and than kidnapped. The big question will be, who did it? The movie will be filled with a lot of suspense, scariness, and mystery. Thanks for reading my blog!

Genre Research *Powerpoint*

Our first project in aice media was to do research on a genre topic picked at random. We got western as our genre topic and honestly, it was something I didn't know much about.  Western has never really been the type of movies I liked to watch. After the research, I learned a lot more about the genre and started to find appreciation for it. They put a lot of work into shooting the action shots in the film and getting the perfect angle of the shoot-offs. Things that are often seen are guns horses and cowboys. They have a lot of scenes where it shows the cowboy riding off into the sunset or just riding off in general. They add extra sounds like horse clacking and gunshots and even background music.

Genre Research Countdown

As a way to narrow down the genre, we will be researching yet another genre.
Today we will be researching the genre horror. We will be going over the C.L.A.M.P.S, C.A.M.S, editing, sounds, examples, and elements of the genre that I like and dislike.

C.L.A.M.P.S
Costumes- In many horror films, they wear regular clothing like jeans and t-shirts. Most of the time murders have blood all over there clothing. In the case where there are monsters, they are usually in ripped up clothing that has holes and missing pieces. In most horror movies the killer has a mask on and gloves to hide their identity.

Lighting- One type of lighting in horror movies is uplighting. This is when the light is facing up in someone's direction to show their face or a certain feature. Another type is spotlighting it is used to put light on something or someone in a dark room. This is mostly used to revel a new finding to a horror movie like a dead body or a missing person.\

Acting- Most of the acting has to do with being scared. Trying to make the movie more dramatic and pull the audience into the scenes. They put fear into the eyes of the people watching to keep them on the edge of their seats. They are usually running and screaming. Or in some cases hiding and whispering.

Makeup- They have gory makeup. This can be in bruises with a variety of shades of black purple and blue. Or cuts that are deep and bloody. They have special effects makeup artists come in to make the wounds and make them look real. They use eyeshadows and lipsticks to blend and deepen the look.

Props- Depending on the type of horror movie they can use a lot of different props to scare you. In murder movies, they can use fake knives and or guns. And in kidnapping movies, they can use fake chains to tie them up and assortments of fake weapons. They can use fake bodies made from silicon and plastic to fool you into thinking its a dead body.

Scenery- It often ends up on a dark foggy night where the moon is full and the spooky feeling too it. It could be in a haunted place like a house or an abandoned building. Or it could be like a graveyard or in the dark forest far from home.
